Album Notes

NEW HORIZONS FOR OZ GUITAR LEGEND MARC LEON. Marc Leon has been associated with many bands and artists who now form a part of Australian Music History. He has earned the respect of his peers as a musician who is not afraid to take on new challenges and constantly works on refining his skills as a composer and performer. Marc began his musical career in 1960 as lead singer in local Rock & Roll bands. He taught himself how to play the guitar, started to write songs and by 1964, his band, The D-Men, was signed up by CBS to record three 45RPM singles, featuring four of Marc's songs. These records were successful in the Sydney charts and the group's popularity was further boosted with regular appearences on National TV, as well as tours with the Aztecs and the Easybeats. By 1966, Marc's musical interests shifted towards Jazz, Blues and R&B (Soul). He was influenced by musicians such as Ray Charles, BB King, Wes Montgomery and the Soul artists who recorded for the "Stax" label

Great listening music. Marc has such a smooth feel both on electric and acoustic guitars. The arrangements are beautiful and the production is first class, I also like the variety of styles featured on this CD.

The Sound Clips Don't Tell The Whole Story.
author: Michael Andrews
I bought this CD at one of Marc's Live gigs a while back and it hasn't been out of my car's CD player for months. He really is an awesome guitar player - not flashy, but Right-On all the time, with lots of feel and expression that a lot of better known players don't seem to put across. Not only that, the arrangements and production are superb! One thing I noticed here - the sound clips all start at the beginning of the tracks and finish after two minutes. The songs on this CD are fairly long (Currents is over 11 mins, with about 3 mood changes, including a scorching electric guitar solo in the middle!) and some of Marc's soloing doesn't start until half-way through, so people listening to the samples wouldn't have any idea of how good this guy really is! So people, take a punt, get this CD, especially for this price. I paid 20 bucks for my copy and I certainly haven't regretted it.
