Image-filled lyrics, rich chords and melodies, and pure voice combine to create a seamless blend of pop and folk for the over-30 audience; a bit of Norah Jones, Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell.

notes

Margaret MacDonald's latest album "Rain on the Roof" is a collection of eleven of her original songs with Margaret performing vocals and piano, and features some amazing talent, including Basil Fung on guitar (Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill) and Charles Waltz (fiddler for the Young Dubliners). Her collaboration with LA-based producer Randall Michael Tobin at Theta Sound has resulted in an album with wide appeal to audiences who listen to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Carole King and Norah Jones.

Margaret grew up in San Francisco listening to everything from classical music to R&B to folk, then spent 15 years in the United Kingdom, and her songs sparkle both musically and lyrically, a rare feat these days. Her richly textured voice takes you from the amusing James Taylor-esque “Still 21 In My Head” to the gut-wrenching “Cry For You” and the R&B ballad, “I Know You Love Me.”

Platinum songwriter and recording artist Harriet Schock says, "Hearing Margaret MacDonald play the piano and sing her songs, I immediately feel transported to a place where every note is what I want it to be and where lyrics deliver the emotional impact the melodies deserve. This is exceptional talent combined with well honed craft."

Her debut CD, Other Vistas, was released in 2001 and is also available here at CDBaby

I first heard a song by Margaret MacDonald on Pandora. I stopped what I was doing and listened. After hearing it a few more times, I researched her and found her website where I listened to the songs several times and knew I just had to buy this CD. I like EVERY song on here. Rain on the Roof and Cry for You are two of my favorites. If you like to sing along, enjoy hauntingly beautiful female vocals, this would be a lovely addition to your listening library.

I love the voice, the piano playing and the words. I find myself humming the tune from "Leap of Faith", which is very catchy. "I know You Love Me" is a song that resonates with me, as does the beautiful and sorrowful "Rain On The Roof". Her music touches me.
