Album Notes

H. Leslie Adams (b. 1932) was born grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, went to school in California, and began his career in New York City.

After serving as a music director for musical theater and as choral director for educational institutions, Adams became a full time composer in 1979. His work was featured on the VOX Showcase of the New York City Opera, on the National Opera Association programs, and on many major orchestral programs world wide.

His works have been performed by the Prague Radio Symphony, Iceland Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Indianapolis Symphony, to name a few. His art songs have been performed by Metropolitan Opera artists worldwide. Leon Bates has featured Adams' Etudes on his piano recitals throughout the U.S.

On his recording, Pianist Maria Corley brilliantly plays these keyboard studies by Adams. They are in a variety of keys, moods, styles, and durations, combining one of the major piano milestone works of our era. They can be listened to as mood/background music, as spiritual inspiration and as upbeat uplifting.

Visit the H. Leslie Adams Webpage at www.HLeslie Adams.net or www.LeslieAdams.com for full bios on this worldwide leading (African) American composer. His music reaches out to people of all walks of life, and sings a song of diversity, inclusiveness, love and joy.

REVIEWS

This is a most welcome addition to the library of African-American classical music. These etudes are flawlessly performed by Maria Corley who deals with the technical demands of Etudes #3 and#12 in particular with aplomb. #3 is reminiscent of Chopin and all the etudes are well constructed and attractive. The collaboration between composer and performer is noteworthy.
