It may come as a surprise to see that not only is Mari Iijima a pop sensation, but is also a genius with composing classical scores and movie soundtracks! Lorna Doone is Mari Iijima's sensational soundtrack for a 1922 silent film remade and remastered in 2001. Many people are not big fans of classical music at all, but Lorna Doone has a very special touch to it. The score was composed entirely for a string quartet, and with the talent of four string players and Mari on piano, this album delivers such a hard punch that you won't believe its magnitude. It is quite frankly one of the most beautiful scores I have ever heard, and it probably will stay that way. Even included is the bonus track "Looking for a Shadow", which was featured in the short film "White Shadow", which has Mari singing her heart out. So to all of you who don't think highly of classical music, or even all of you that do, this score will give you enough peace to end your deepest frustrations.

This instrumental CD was quite enjoyable and went along great with the movie of Lorna Doone. We used the CD as background music for a presentation my daughter did for a British Literature class.

brings in tranquility

It is different from one of Mari's earlier albums "Starlight, Moonshadow". Yet, you will like it even if you are not a big fan of classical music. Although this album is full of pure music, you could still hear Mari's beautiful voice from the short bonus song "Looking For A Shadow".

Mari Iijima surprises with minimalist score

I thought she was simply a Japanese pop star, but I had Turner Classic Movies' Silent Sunday on the television in another room, when I heard this haunting score. At first I thought it was either a Philip Glass or a Steve Reich score played by the Kronos Quartet, when I looked it up online and it turns out to be this Japanese waif who recorded it in one informal sitting...wow! Great Sunday morning music, a bit melancholy, but thoroughly engaging.
And guess what? Amazon didn't even carry it, but CDBaby had it new at an excellent price!
