Album Notes

Marinda + Solari are an electro-acoustic duo consisting of two voices and Spanish guitar. Their influences and styles are different - Marinda drawing from her love of old jazz singers and mixing it with Parisian pop and neo-soul; Solari combining remnants of early R&B with Latin bossa and African Folk - yet they negotiate easily. Their orchestration is sharp, their voices unique, and the space in their music purposeful. They engage audiences through poignant lyrics and charm creating an intimate atmosphere even on a festival stage. It is easy to get drawn in.

Since 2007, Marinda + Solari have performed together on over 75 international stages, playing festivals and showcases in North America and Western Europe. In December 2008, they were acclaimed ‘Best Show Of The Year’ for their performance at ‘Bout Du Monde’ in Vevey, Switzerland and have been invited to perform at the 2010 Montreux Jazz Festival. They won ‘Best Jazz’ at the Toronto Independent Music Awards for their EP release, Cup Of Tea in 2008. This album was charted #4 on Ottawa college radio and received regular airplay on CBC, Radio Paradiso (Switzerland), Radio Canada and Toronto College Radio.
Marinda + Solari have worked extensively in different capacities, helping to raise awareness through social commentary at events such as Week without violence, Amnesty International benefit, Help Nepal fundraiser, YWCA banquets and Music for heart and soul series at Toronto General hospital. They have independently coordinated collaborative, multi-discipline street performances such as the ‘LuaSol by Lantern’ show and ‘Nuit Blanche Music Box’ featuring visual media artworks. This year they’ll have showcased three consecutive summers at the Atlantic Jazz Festival as well as at Toronto’s Serenades in the Square at Yonge and Dundas Square. They also performed at Canada’s annual North by NorthEast industry festival, East Coast Music Awards and Toronto’s urban music festival – ‘Manifesto’.

In October 2008, they moved to London UK in order to exchange with European audiences, and after a brief period back in Canada they will return to Europe in 2010, performing in London, Geneva, Barcelona and Frankfurt.
