Album Notes

The first music Marion remembers hearing is barbershop quartet music. Her father was musical director of several barbershop groups in her hometown of Owings Mills, Maryland. As a child, Marion found these rehearsals as compelling as sledding, raking leaves, and catching fireflies. Such rich vocal harmonies as she heard then are apparent in her recordings today.

Following her harmony-drenched childhood in Maryland, Marion spent nearly 15 years in Boston. There she performed regularly in clubs, coffeehouses, and on live radio. She also performed at various venues in Portland, Oregon, where she lived before moving to Vancouver, Canada.

An intuitive and spontaneous composer, Marion feels that her inspiration isn’t complicated. Instead of trying to write songs, she prefers simply to pay attention; to stay open hearted and open minded and allowing the songs to take shape.

Though she plays guitar, piano and mandolin, Marion`s true instrument is her voice. It is her voice that has propelled her as a career musician. It has a clear and pure quality reflecting perfectly her honest and poetic lyrics.

When she is not singing and writing music, Marion spends as much time as she can outdoors, finding inspiration in the beauty of her natural surroundings.
