Album Notes

She has shared the stage with Allison Krauss and John Hartford. In one historic, groundbreaking concert she shared the stage with the late Ernest Tubbs.
From Carnegie Hall to country church, Marita Brake's music seems to resonate with a wide variety of audiences, genres
and critics alike.
Now, in this rare re-release from PBS specials, this gentle, heartrending performer, likened to Emmy Lou Harris and Allison Krauss, takes us on an unforgettable journey,
"The Road I Took To You".
From the plaintive, Miss The Mississippi and You to the the playful, Garden Song, this acoustic combination of folk and bluegrass made stops along the way in several PBS features.
While showcasing Brake's early years, it is none the less strong for the effort. Charming acoustic originals, familiar
songs of home and heartache and spiritual alchemy make this CD a treasure trove of Americana.
In fact, the famous Chicago author, Studs Terkel, called her
"an American treasure". A truly wonderful tribute from an American Icon! Classic!

The Musical Magic of Marita Brake
author: John Dunphy

Brake's music embodies the beauty and wonder of the seasons. These songs harbor the miracle of spring's first crocus peeping through the snow, the gentle melancholy of autumn's last leaves and the glistening majesty of icicles dangling from the trees. The Road I Took To You contains Brake's interpretations of pop classics such as "Here Comes The Sun" as well as the delightful "Garden Song" a tune sure to strike a resonant note with all of us who plant seeds and nurture their growth. But check out Brake's original compositions, "Up On The River" "Midwestern Winds" "Country Miles" "The Master and Mahatma" and "Once In A Blue Moon". She is a treasure among us and somewhat of a secret, but I hope this review changes that.

Evocative!!!
author: The Hub Weekly

Like so many singer/songwriters before her, Brake cut her teeth in local coffeehouses. She's performed with the likes of Allison Krauss, played two presidential inaugurations and found her way to Carnegie Hall.

Inventive music which bubbles and skips brightly along, excellent guitar techniq
author: Heartsong Review

This CD is full of folksy, down home themes about family, love and friendship- such as the playful, yet suggestive, Cook With Honey and Friends Don't Say Goodbye. Brake's guitar instrumentals are inventive and enjoyable, especially, Country Miles, which bubbles and skips along. Her lyrical and, at times, bell like voice combines beautifully with excellent guitar technique! All create a mood as relaxing and lazy as a country afternoon.
