Mark is a Flamenco / Spanish / Latin Guitarist, who also enjoys the recording, production and composition of music. After studying Classical guitar from an early age, Mark turned his hand to the pop/rock scene, and played with a variety of outfits from rock to funk, in a variety of places from Cornwall to Australia.
Having being inspired by a local Flamenco concert in 2000, Mark diversified into the exciting and dynamic world of Flamenco Guitar, studying with South West virtuoso Jon Salfield and the UK's number 1 Flamenco teacher, Rafael.

This sounds like a soundtrack for a movie set in the Mediterranean. Excellent, professional, production, and world class muscianship. I felt like I went on a trip somewhere exotic."
Review of Tierra de los Suenos:
"Flamenco Supreme!"
Delicious acoustic flamenco styled guitars. Relaxing vacation mood. Very exotic and beautiful. This is one of the best acoustic guitar tracks I have come across. Sign me up as a fan!

A perfect connection between technique and emotion
author: Viktor Mastoridis (BBC Macedonians)
Mark's guitar performance is very mature. He plays clear and convincing. Besides the excellent technique, in his music there are his emotion, his passion, his heart. That's a real proof of a good control over an instrument: when the performer is able to connect the technical and emotional side in one artistic expression. And Mark Barnwell does it with lightness and joy. Well done, Mark!

A tour de force of composing, arranging and performing skills.
author: Deborah Latham
Passionata further demonstrates Mark Barnwell’s skill not just as composer and performer but also as an arranger; possessors of his previous albums will be well acquainted with his ability to evoke strong visual imagery as much by the arrangement of a song as by its theme melody. He continues to create a sense of the magical – continuing from 'The Enchanted Forest' from his album El Mosaico and the beautiful 'Ailia' from 'Viaje Del Mundo' – expressed here in 'Rivendell', which cleverly conveys celebration and solemnity together. 'Desert Sunrise' is a particularly powerful description in music of just that. The striking moment where it merges into 'Ish' - when you realize that you are not in fact witnessing the spectacle isolated among the undulating dunes, as you thought - is one you won’t quickly forget. But of all the songs Mark has so far recorded, my personal favourite has to be the Spanish/Latin delight of 'Fiesta Latina'. I can never hear it without an instant lift of mood - it is, purely and simply, just so foot-tappingly, irresistibly joyous!

I found this CD a 'must hear'! If there is a 'formula' for defining 'perfection' in this particular style of music, I would have to say that I think this Artist has discovered it! All tracks are highly listenable with more than two thirds of the album being nothing short of 'superb'in both 'composition achievement and also 'production quality'. The structure, content and heartfelt delivery of the track Tierra de los suenos very much reminds me of the same winning formula as Cavatina by John Williams and with significant terrestrial air play, I personaly believe this composition has 'hit' potential. I wish I could offer other listeners some constructive criticism of all the tracks on this particular album alongside my praise of it but to be frank, I found Passionata as a whole without fault and probably one of the best indie chill out albums I've come across. A 'must have' for all fans of latin and world music and a valued addition to the CD collection of Easy Listening fans. I wish this Artist much continued success!
