When singer/songwriter Mark Dowdy read the New York Times best-selling book Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown (WaterBrook Press/a division of Random House, May 22, 2012), he was so moved that he contacted author Eric Blehm about writing a song. These two strangers, brought together by the incredible true story of Adam Brown, a member of the elite SEAL Team SIX, collaborated on the single “Fearless,” now available for live streaming at fearlessnavyseal.com or for purchase on iTunes.
The book, Fearless, tells the story of Adam Brown, a country boy from Arkansas who had a daredevil streak along with a fierce loyalty to his friends and family. After falling in with the wrong crowd, Adam’s crack cocaine addiction landed him in jail. In his darkest hour he found faith and hope. Soon after he met his wife, Kelley, whose unwavering love and belief in the man Adam could be gave him encouragement to fulfill his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. Adam persevered through grueling qualifying tests that resulted in injuries—most considered career-enders—including being shot in one eye and having the fingers of his shooting hand crushed off in a Humvee accident in Afghanistan. Mark Dowdy was so inspired by Adam's life story and what he overcame—crack addiction, jail, loss of vision in his right eye (same as Mark, who was born with a visual impairment), severed fingers on his dominant hand—during his rise to SEAL Team SIX, that Mark wanted to honor Adam and the Brown family in song. The single “Fearless” is a tribute to Adam Brown—an American hero who, like his family, never gave up. Adam found strength in his love of God, love of family, and love of country.
