Mark Farris: My Romance
Mark Farris has released this beautiful collection of love songs ranging from the Great American Songbook, the Broadway stage, the current pop scene, and even PBS via Sesame Street. With tasteful arrangements and creating a lush, full sound with piano, bass, and drums, one feels as if they are in a cozy supper club experiencing the artistry of someone who knows how to go deeper with these songs. There are a plethora of Great American Songbook albums to choose from out there, and one thing I look for (as both a singer and a listener) is interpretation. Emotional connectivity with one's material is so important and Mr. Farris brings such a complex and technical gift of that connectivity with such ease. It's like, "I'm going to sing you a story". To be honest, I never thought of a song from Sesame Street in the context of a love song until I heard him sing it. And I never knew the Dave Grusin classic "Take 5" had lyrics!! This is one album you will have on in constant rotation. Great music uplifts and transcends. Good musicians do that and Mr. Farris is one to watch and listen to. If he ever needs a duet partner... ;-)
