Album Notes

A Stellar line up of musical talent makes musical magic on eight solid tracks composed and arranged by bassist Mark Peterson.

Mark is a formidable talent known to U.S. and audiences abroad for his masterful and diverse work with his group, the Mark Peterson Quartet, and for his work with such luminary artists as Cassandra Wilson, Lizz Wright, Maxime LeForrestier, James Blood Ulmer, Mary Black, The Dubliners, Ornette Coleman and Joan Baez, to name but a few.

For the past 15 years, Mark has been a mainstay on the New York music scene as a bandleader, clinician and musical contractor with over 100 jingles and recording credits to his name.

If variety is the spice of life: "The Blue Room" is the place to be!

Mark Peterson has assembled a stunning lineup of musicians for this one. The amazing collection covers it all: The Blue Room is full of satisfying styles: funky, bluesy, smooth, energizing, stimulating, relaxing. The 8 original Mark Peterson compositions are so fine; the sound is splendid...the album flows!! The hardest thing to comprehend about this collection is that it could actually be a debut effort!! The masterful blend of talent, sound, musicianship, style and class make this one a must have! I have a feeling that wise music lovers will be joining me for many fine listening hours in Mark Peterson's Blue Room.

Very refreshing - full of life.

After purchasing several CDs of bassists playing mostly upright, and most of them using the jazz trio or quartet format (piano, bass, drums, maybe sax), this CD brings an entirely different level of playing and listening experience. Mark's music, to me, not only brings the flavor of jazz basics, but also brings a newness not heard from many of his contemporaries today. Can't wait for the follow-up CD.

The album showed was as fluided as anyone could ever ask for. It took me down a gentle melodic journey.
