In the month of November 2008 I came across an old book written in 1935. It is called the Listener's Music book. I found this quote very interesting and would like to share it with you. "Someone else can compose music for you. Someone else can perform music for you. No one on earth can listen to music for you." by Olga Stokowski
Listeners say this music is for "relieving big time stress,
massage, quiet contemplation, yoga practise, pure relaxation, a stroll into the welcoming arms of nature...it's uplifting, inspiring, romantic, very picturesque, soothing, healing, a different journey every time you hear it."
I just wrote a poem today, June 7th 2009:
Each note is a drop of rain,
Each note is a ray of sunshine,
Each note caresses the stars, And washed away the pain, Then time has lost its name. by Mark Pinkus
This cd is for those who love melody, moods of light and dark and in between, music that moves with the soul of nature and lullabies you into various realities and dreams. Breakthrough is about assisting you in breaking through
the many barriers and obstacles that happen in our lives.
Mark Pinkus was just named artist of the month for May 2008 on Canadian New Age Instrumental Satellite Radio. This solo piano cd was Recorded on a Grand Yamaha Piano. Total time: 65:05
"Canadian pianist Mark Pinkus brings a lyrical and vivacious sensibility to his craft, resulting in an album filled with dynamic, at times playful compositions. Breakthrough celebrates imagery from nature, ranging from trees to frogs, from shadows to birds flying in the spring. "Wherever You Are" evokes the longing of a long-distance love, while the "Bedroom Window" evokes a sense of the comforts of home. Perhaps what makes Breakthrough a total aural joy is how humble it is-in not trying to make a grand musical statement, Pinkus captures the grandeur of ordinary life." Carl McColman of New Age Voice.
"Mark Pinkus calls his public performances Slowing down Concerts. I like the concept. His idea is to take time to slow down and enjoy, if only for a little while, the peace that comes with the decision. It appears that his contemplative solo piano album, BREAKTHROUGH, can help you do just that. My favorite track on Breakthrough is WHEREVER YOU ARE. First of all the title is terribly romantic. Second, I think that everyone at one time or another has felt this way. Just imagine being away from someone you truly love. Even for a short time. There is a pang in the middle of your stomach. You have a shortness of breath, you are sweating and you feel an incredible yearning at the bottom of your heart. That emotion, that very feeling is captured in Mark's song. It is where you want to be....I like this idea of slowing down, Mark Pinkus' music allows us to slow down almost guilt free. I think I would like to hear this composer in person, and slow down for a while." RJ Lannan from www.newagereporter.com
"BREAKTHROUGH" is very different from Mark's previous writing, so passionate, romantic and active, a great ice breaker!" Renee Gelpi, host of Galaxie on CBC digital television, Canada
"Mark is in full control of his performance on this CD, each piece wonderfully played, strong and emotional. My father had a recording of great romantic piano performances that he listened to regularly, and BREAKTHROUGH reminds me of that recording. PInkus makes many gestures towards the Romantic masters." Bill Maclean, from Beach Metro News

An Unselfish Gift

It is always a deep pleasure to listen to this series of compositions. Many of my colleagues have purchased this CD for their private collection. It is always poignant and fresh. Makes a great gift, too.

Breakthrough
author: Tova Hanson
This albums title pretty much speaks for the more polished, matured and self confidant emotion that can't be helped but pleasantly strike you in this album. I would go so far as to say it paralels with the listeners OWn emotional "breakthrougs" when listenning. In a slightly "new Terrain" for Mark Pinkus, All his music being a constant, freeflowing wave, each song woven in to the next. Brings forth a unique quality very much a piano comparison to Kenny G, an account of the kind of environment, abiance and almost childlike romanticism it provides. However, Breakthrough is reminisant of the metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly. The impression is truelly te right of passag from boy to man being recently completed, His prior albums emmitting more innocence and purity, while breakthrough remarkably and maturely "takes the reignes" of a more worldy sensual and confidant man, with the images and emotions it conjures. Although I dont know him personally, I have followed Mark Pinkuses albums over the years after being touched by the young man playing piano on stage at a very ambiant lounge where I was having a martini while waitting for a friend Where I could not help but feel as though the piano was being played solely for myself. A meeting of the soul so to speak. Later on in the evening once he was gone, it still being in my head, asked the host about him. HE has truelly HAD a BREAKTHROUGH , with this album, daring and having finally reached a certain sense of self that can't be helped but speak volumes through these songs, whos tempos and subtle whispers, tease and touch you. Inspiring images of the most primitive, natural and sensual sides of our lives and fantasies.
So far Breakthrough being my favorite album of Mark pinkus; a journey which both holds your hand and dances WITH you from begging to end and in THIS album takes the lead like a mysterious dark handsome stranger on an exotic ballroom floor... Mark Pinkus is an artist who is uncomplicated in his music and uses the piano as an extension of his own hands and heart. Lest to say I am NOT disappointed by his BREAKTHROUGH...

It is a breakthrough for me each time I listen to this CD and discover the depth of those pieces on one hand, and the lightness like feather on the other hand.
