Album Notes

An established live performer since 1968, Mark R. Kent debuts with his CD, "The Boy from Skibbereen," released in March 2005 on his Red Drum label.

Kent is an acoustic guitarist, pianist, vocalist, arranger and songwriter, who along with Jimmy Hunter, has adapted 13 traditional pieces from Irish, Scottish and American roots to produce this fine, modern collection for you.

Produced in Los Angeles by Jimmy Hunter at Cazador Recording, "The Boy from Skibbereen" features a number of excellent musicians, including Hunter (drums, synthesizer, backup vocals and a poignant role as the "father" in "Skibbereen"), Kelly McCune (who duets with Kent on "John Riley"), longtime veteran guitar wizard Paul Warren (featured in "The Night Visit") and upright bassist Robert Staron, a bandmate with McCune in the L.A.-based Border Radio. The CD is unusual in that Kent departs somewhat from the traditional treatment of the 13 songs and presents them in a modern popular American style skillfully crafted and produced by Hunter.

Kent, born in 1949 in Detroit, has performed in many parts of America, including Michigan, Ontario, Vermont, Indiana, Ohio, California, Florida and all over the Deep South, in restaurants, coffee houses and small concert halls, as well as countless private and charitable functions. He lives in Mobile, Alabama, where he works as a production editor and writer for The Mobile Register.

Mark thanks you for your time and hopes you enjoy his album, what he hopes is the first of many more to come.

"Kent's honesty and passion transmits the insight of an old soul.
author: Producer Jimmy Hunter's Recommendation:

Few American artists have the ability to capture the essence and flavor of the traditional Irish folksong. Mark R. Kent is one of the few. A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, he has been pleasing fans across the American folk circuit for years. Kent's honesty and passion for the music transmits the insight of an old soul. Over four years' time, Mark made numerous treks to Los Angeles to fulfill his dream of assembling this collection of songs just for you. --Jimmy Hunter, Producer http://www.jimmyhunter.com
