Album Notes

Former member of the tribal-rock group, Mecca Bodega and currently with the indo-pop fusion group, Church of Betty, Marlon also works regularly with Suzzy & Maggie Roche (of The Roches), Australian didjeridoo player Simon 7's Didjworks, Sonic Uke, and performs music for film, theater, and modern dance.

"Elsewhere" is a fusion of world-beat grooves, rock, soul, & jazz, with a spiritual love vibe, influenced by Dead Can Dance, Bob Marley, John Lennon, Todd Rundgren, author James Baldwin, & actor/film maker Charlie Chaplin.

Most of the songs feature Marlon on all vocals & instruments including various hand drums, and assorted percussion, didjeridoo, kalimba, and guitars.

There are also guest appearances by Terre Roche on guitar and vocal, Chris Rael (Church of Betty) on sitar, Deep Singh ("Bombay Dreams", Broadway cast) on tabla and Daniel Carter (Other Dimensions In Music / test) on saxaphone.

Most of the songs are original compositions and there are covers of the folk classic, "The Lonesome Road" and a version of Joni Mitchell's "Dreamland".

Marlon Cherry is an artist of estimable vision.
author: Chris Steakley/the Performing Songwriter

Trance-inducing beats, grooves that sway like trees in the wind and a mad scientist's approach to worldbeat and ethnic fusion mark Marlon Cherry as an artist of estimable vision. His strutting, ferocious take on Joni Mitchell's "Dreamland" should do Mitchell proud.
