Biography

Marques Callaway is a soulful performing artist. His songs rhythmically move through his audience. In his first solo album, The Story, Marques Callaway has a sultry sound that exudes a sexy feeling. More recently, in his about to be released, Mayor of Da South his sound is at the crossroads where the pulsating sounds of Hip Hop meet the soothing sound of R&B, a sound quickly being recognized as, The New Southern Era of R&B.

Marques Callaway was born in Monterey, California into a military family, they relocated to Fort Worth, TX, when he was two years old. As a young boy, he expressed interest in music. He often found himself singing with a desire to perform for others. His interests grew and he began to write songs, he was inspired by Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, The Gap Band and Stevie Wonder. He performed in talent shows, musicals and plays throughout school. In addition, he was an active part of the Dallas Fort Worth Mass choir, directed by Kirk Franklin.

His experience has brought him to a higher level of performing and composing music. In 2002, he was introduced to the executives at 50/50 Entertainment. He was signed and his first CD was released in late 2003. The release of The Story illuminated opportunities for Marques Callaway to perform with stars in the industry such as, Scarface, Ludacris, Lil’ Flip, Frankie J, Choppa, Destiny ‘s Child , Mystical, Silk, and Jade. He has opened up in San Antonio, Texas for comedy shows starring Mike Epps, Ricky Smiley, Shawty Shawty, and Ms. DuPris from the Tom Joyner Morning Show. In February of 2005, He was invited to perform at the NAACP Theatre Awards where he was complimented by Lawrence Fishburn and other celebrity guests.

Currently, Marques Callaway lives in San Antonio, TX, where he writes and records all of his original music. He has recently returned home from visiting cities all over the country, and has recorded his new album Mayor of Da South. While traveling, he was able to think about the goals for this next album, as well as gather creative ideas for production. He is looking forward to new opportunities to perform with his respected peers and pleasing audiences with his homage to R&B. Marques Callaway says, “Rhythm and Blues is a well loved genre. It generates a feeling that moves a person’s soul”.

He has embodied these traits into his sound, coupled with a smooth singing voice; this new album will certainly entertain audiences everywhere.
