Background Information

I have been playing guitar for 26 years now. I didn't play in public until I was thirty years old. The audience though went nuts! Since then, I've won a guitar playing competition with "Aboriginal Sin." The first prize a $400 guitar. I've gotten one of my songs written up in the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star newspaper.

They said it was "loud and proud" and "the crowd loved it." I've gotten standing ovations and requests to play "Thunderweasel" at nightclubs. People go nuts for it. I don't know why. There's just something about it people really like.

I had been playing out in some of the bars around town, and heard through the
grapevine that a girl had been going to one bar every night for three weeks
waiting for me to come back. I never had a groupie before. I went there and she wanted me all to herself. She didn't want me talking to my friends or anyone.

I was flattered. We started dating. After a while she didn't want me to drive
my own car, take guitar lessons, take professional certification exams, or
anything else that she couldn't control. She wanted me to sell my house and move into her apartment. She was so paranoid that I would leave her that she was trying to control everything about me so I wouldn't have the opportunity to
escape.

After about three months, I noticed I had the same symptoms that she had. I went to the doctor and the test came back positive for Herpes Simplex One antibodies. I told her and she said; "I don't know where you got it from but you didn't get it from me." I kept dating her because I didn't think I had any alternative, but all we were doing was screaming at each other. On the last day she told me; "...but, I love you!" and I just wasn't in the mood to hear it. I told her to get out and if she didn't I was going to call the police. I expected she would cool off and we could discuss things rationally. Instead she went and got a guy that had had a crush on her since high school and started telling me about him. I hung up on her. Then she showed up at a bar that I was playing at, with him. I got on stage and said; "This is dedicated to a special person in the audience tonight," and started playing Rick James' "Superfreak." She went outside to smoke a cigarette. She was sitting in the smoking section already.

I figured, if nothing else, I made this guy's night real interesting. Two months later I heard through the grapevine again that they saw her engagement announcement in the newspaper.

I feel sorry for him.
