Album Notes

i had always thought MARTI & i recorded a bunch of duets on our solo albums but as i thumb through the stack of cds the only two i can find are BRENTON WOODS' "Gimme Little Sign" (from EEE) & JOE TEX's "You Got What It Takes" (from my Long-Haired Life)…over the years we recorded a handful of duets for tribute albums but it seems like after all this time singing together we'd have made up some of our own songs…a while back i wrote "Love Is An Ocean" for a friend's wedding which appears on our 2009 digital release Lucky Stars but even though that album was billed as Marti Jones & Don Dixon, that one song is the only true duet…

a little over a year ago, i convinced MARTI it was time to record some proper duets by playing her a new song i'd been working on called "Trouble Is As Trouble Does"…that song finally grabbed her attention…got her thinking more seriously about taking on a duet project…so we slowly assembled a collection of songs that we felt good about…

we attempted several covers that didn't make the cut but we did end up using two songs we recorded for earlier tributes (JOHN BASSETTE's "I'm Hanging My Laundry" & JEFF MURPHY's "Only In My Sleep") along with two more songs written by other folks…MARTI had been carrying DAVE MATHESON's "You Remind Me" around in her back pocket for years & most of you know she loves classic soul songs so she prevailed on me to let her record OTIS REDDING's "These Arms Of Mine"…i think she killed it while i just tried to stay out of the way…the other six songs were written specifically for this album including one i made up with our dear friend KELLEY RYAN…

we've been practicing to make this record for 25 years…i hope you like it…

Warm And Fresh And Yet Familiar
author: Jeff Lindsey

Once there was a time when you had to buy new music based on word of mouth, or based on a really cool article that you read in Rolling Stone magazine, written by some writer whose opinion you valued, and who would rave about some new release - and you just had to hear it for yourself. So you’d do extra chores, save up your allowance, go to the store and buy it, run to your room, tear the plastic off, put it on the turntable and plop on the bed, staring at the ceiling, anxiously waiting for that moment to decide for yourself if it was all worth it. No specific record comes to mind, but lying there staring at the ceiling, there’d be a moment when it would hit me, and I’d smile and know that I would love this record for the rest of my life…That’s the feeling I get every time I play LIVING STEREO. It’s warm and it transcends me, at every listen, without fail. If you’re reading this, you’re most likely already familiar with Marti Jones and Don Dixon’s work. The cliff notes version: You will NOT be disappointed. It’s warm and fresh and yet familiar and will make you realize that in this day and age of disposable music, there still exists NEW music that you’ll love for the rest of your life. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.
