Martini Red specializes in unexpected contradictions. These are modern lads, but they play music that their grandparents danced to. And they play it as if they had lived it. One minute they're riding herd on a bit of Bob Wills western swing, the next deftly surveying Cole Porter's art deco sophistication.
But the common thread that Martini Red explores and exploits is the basic joy of acoustic music; that pure sound coaxed from string and wood which reaches deeper than any wall of synthesizers. Most of all, a Martini Red performance is an exercise in infectious fun.
Just three guys filling a stage with acres of happy sound using mandolin, upright bass, snare drum, and vocals. Martini Red is brave enough to follow very old musical paths, roads all but invisible in the Info Highway landscape. Put on your dancin' shoes and join them...

A cozy collection of good-time music
author:
This is good, honest handmade music, very fine stuff. Straight ahead good-time jazz, with a touch of vaudeville and gypsy swing, on the borderline to jug, folk and skiffle. Standards like "Miss Otis Regrets" and "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans", as well as the western swing high-light "Who Walks In" are played by this dynamic trio with a strong good-time-feel, creating a cozy and relaxin' atmospreare, but also with a touch bluesy and minor-oriented moods, especially in their smashing version of Irvin Berlin's "Russian Lullay" and their own "Angel Of Cristmas Sorrow". Other tracks such as "We Three" and "Shoes Blues" are not as intense, but very pleasent, relaxin' and cozy. And I gues that's the most obvious qualities of this album: it is very cozy and relaxin' - sure to give a nice and pleasent time. Sit down in your best chair, put the feet up somewhere and enjoy. Oldfashioned melody and well-swingin' old scool drive takes you on a journey. Not sure where to,but away from what ever bothers you. Not meant in an escapistic way. Just a little time out finding new strengh. We all need that sometimes. So take a breack with Martini Red. It'll make you feel better.
