Album Notes

Martin has recorded a collection of original compositions with his fellow San Antonio jazz musicians; Kyle Keener – drums, Polly Harrison – 7-string guitar, and Will Kelly – acoustic bass; (Kyle and Polly being the renowned jazz group, Small World). The recording was done at Peter Carey’s Rhythm Room, in San Antonio and is a collection of bebop, ballads, bossa novas and blues. Martin’s playing invokes the spirit and style of the deeptoned baritone saxophone master’s of bebop that include; Pepper Adams, Leo Parker, Serge Chaloff, Nick Brignola and Gary Smulyan. Martin and his bari sax have shared the stage with some of the finest jazz musicians that the Alamo City has to offer such as; Curtis Calderon (of the Four Freshman), Katchie Cartwright, Joan Carroll, Richie Cole (of Alto Madness fame), Mark Little, Rich Oppenheim, George Prado, Ron Wilkins and a host of others. His deep-toned bebop excursions are always a welcomed addition to the musical dialog.

What are they saying about Sweet Serendipity?
“Since he hit town in ’08, New Jersey born-baritone saxophonist Martin Schwacha has become a valuable part of the local jazz scene. The 10 tracks on the disk, all Schwacha originals, showcase the sax man’s chops and range….It’s sweet indeed” Jim Beal, San Antonio Express News

“Martin’s ballad playing is up to the challenge; clear, precise and definite. You are able to hear each note as they flow together….” Kory Cook, Music Director, KRTU 91.7 FM | Jazz for San Antonio
