Album Notes

The release of Versatile Roots in 1994 marked the beginning of Marty Dread's recording career, as well as the launching of his own record label, "Five Corners Music". (Five Corners is an area in Haiku, Maui, Hawai`i where Marty grew up.) The songs on Versatile Roots were refined through numerous live performances with the band "Culture Shock".

Marty Dread's first major success - "Wicked Wahine" - was a huge radio hit in Hawai`i. The Versatile Roots CD also features what has become Marty Dread's signature song - "No Mo' Slippah". (Marty is well known for walking barefoot). Plus, there's a duet - "Reggae Blues" - with songwriter/actor (and fellow Mauian), Kris Kristofferson!

Marty Dread's debut release, Versatile Roots, is a collector's item.
