Album Notes
Marty Tanger’s music seems from another time and place than his native New Jersey. A veteran of the Philadelphia music scene of the 1980s and 90s as a guitarist and vocalist with the Floyd Hunter Band, his music now sounds Delta fed. Though his influences include The Allman Brothers, The Band, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters & Hank Williams, he has developed a distinctive melodic style that encompasses many roots-based genres. You’ll hear guitar, dobro, mandolin and some very noteworthy slide work in these compositions that ring of blues, bluegrass and folk genres. The writing is beautifully evocative; his songs are immediate, atmospheric and soulful. You’ll feel you’ve been to the bayou and back when listening to these melodic meditations. They serve as thoughtful backdrops to life, for those who care to listen.

Haunting, absolutely beautiful and haunting
Marty's style is distinct. Each song has soul poured out from deep within Marty's heart. You can feel the sadness and pain in some songs. Everytime I listen to the album I am transported to another time and place. I listen to this album over and over. Hopefully, this is the first of many albums. It is refreshing to find an album in which you look forward to hearing each and every song, finding something new every time.

Well done Martin.

Acoustic Artistry
The production of this CD is only surpassed by the artful playing of Marty Tanger. This record demonstrates how beautiful acoustic guitar music can be when an accomplished player is recorded simply.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Need to know where I can buy the CD in BC, Canada.

Seriously delicious! I could (and will) listen to this over and over and over again. So sweet and soulful, they evoke so much emotion... it always feels good to listen. Looking forward to the next CD... thank you Marty!

Having been heavily influenced in my past by listening to Duane Allman's (too short) catalog of tunes, I can say that several of the songs on this River Songs CD reminds me of the quieter, non-electric 'Little Martha', written by Duane Allman; which I think we can all appreciate.
