Album Notes

Marvin Webb was born on April 20, 1952, in Memphis, TN. He was raised in Richmond, CA, where he currently resides. He has always been a staple in the community. You can find him in city council meetings voicing his opinion about issues that affect the city of Richmond. He has helped coordinate projects that focus on non-violence, the “March for Jesus”, “Stadium Impact against Violence”, and many others that he has participated in. Marvin was the director of “The Pyramid Program”, located on the Contra Costa Community College campus. The Pyramid Program was a program designed to mentor disadvantaged high school youth. He is always nearby whenever there is an event or cause focused on improving the conditions of the Black community.

Marvin grew up playing sports; he was entered into the hall of fame at Kennedy High school for baseball, basketball, and football. Baseball was the sport that he loved to play the most. He played baseball for Contra Costa Community College, which paved the way for him to play for the Dodgers AAA team from 1972-1978. Subsequent to his baseball career, Marvin became the Assistant, and now Head baseball coach for Contra Costa Community college.

He is a man with a powerful testimony, one that all who know him can attest to. Marvin had two best friends who played baseball with him in Richmond, ca. and in the L.A. Dodgers organization for many years, Glen Burke and Cleo Smith. Glen died of AIDS, and Cleo was murdered on the streets of North Richmond. Marvin is the only one still here to tell the story. He has always been a God fearing man (his mother introduced him to God at a very young age). That didn’t stop him from struggling with his life for many years. He did not have a relationship with God, though he knew he was there. When Marvin made up his mind that he couldn’t go on without God, God’s arms were open to receive him. Marvin was born again in 1992 at Peniel Full Gospel Baptist Church in El Sobrante, CA, where he is currently the Assistant Pastor.

At the age of 43 he went back to college to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from New College of San Francisco. Marvin then continued on to receive a Master of Arts in Physical Education from St. Mary’s College in Moraga ca. Marvin has been married to his lovely wife, Katrina, since January 2004. He also has one daughter, Aries, who is currently working on an MBA from the University of Texas, Dallas.

It’s time for love was written out of concern for violence and poor conditions in our community. Every song is intended to give God praise and worship. These songs also are intended to encourage everyone that has ever been bound or hooked or controlled by anything, that there is hope in Jesus.” I believe that we all must get involved in changing our lives our community and the world through all the gifts that God has given us, and this is mine. The bible says that you don’t fight evil with evil, but you fight evil with love. God is love”.
