Biography

Western Canadian Roots

“Imagine John Denver with an electric guitar” – Peter Pirquet, Full Moon Folk Club, Edmonton.

Marv Machura, described by Penguin Eggs Magazine as a "winning singer and talented guitar player," is one of Alberta's favorite singer-songwriters.

As a singer, performer, and guitar player, Machura’s original blend of folk, blues, rock, and country-based roots-music with his band, The Marv Machura Band, has a reputation for high-energy, guitar-driven live performances.

Following the musical tradition of contemporary folk-roots artists like Fred Eaglesmith, Steve Earle, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson, and John Denver, Machura's music and live act have a wide demographic appeal. Audiences are draw to Machura’s unassuming manner and charm and won over by his clear, expressive vocals and dynamic guitar playing on a range of original and cover tunes.

His three critically acclaimed discs (2003, 2004, 2009) have been supported by radio stations across Alberta and have landed significant air and internet radio play in Europe and the USA. Although he has published over 20 songs in Nashville, Machura is primarily known as narrative singer-songwriter and guitar-player whose music continues to define the Western Canadian experience.

A veteran of the roots music scene, Machura has been performing for over thirty years; with the release of his latest disc, he shows no sign of slowing down!

The new CD Warm Summer Night is sure to please old and new fans of this Western Canadian singer-songwriter and continue pushing his career onward and upward!

Note: Machura is pronounced Ma-chúra, as in “mature-a.”
