Kids love "I Know A Lumberjack". I am a character trait teacher. I take along my guitar and in each class we sing three songs before I get started teaching about the character trait. I ask the kids what they want to sing and hands go up. They say, "We want to sing "I Know A Lumberjack". I know it's because there is interaction. I know it's because they like to shout "timber!" at the end of each chorus, but they also lke the repeat lines. It's easy to follow along.

I tell the students that this song is also an example of what happens when you continue to work steadily at a job. You may hurt for a little while, but in time you will get good at what you do. You will be stronger for it - either physically or emotionally, or socially. Keep at the job...even when you may not want to and your parents or teachers keep you working at the task.
