It’s here…After years of songwriting and performing as a solo artist and then with country-rock local favorites Pawnshop Ruby, Mary Johnson Rockers has released her second, long-awaited solo album, No Place for Birds to Rest. It was skillfully recorded by Ryan Dean Pickett and produced by Mary and Ryan at Pick’s Gym in Durham, NC, between 2007 and 2008. Musical contributions include notables Greg Readling of Chatham County Line, Geordie Woods of Kudzu Wish, Miriam Chicurel, Evan Overton, and Mark Holland (Jule Brown). The recording is an assembly of new and evolved tunes gracefully accompanied by Mary’s musician friends, and is sure to travel as far as birds can fly.
Mary’s songs are reminiscent of her mountain home of Tennessee, and she has found inspiration and resoluteness in the place she's called home for the past ten years, the musical hotbed of the NC Piedmont. No Place for Birds to Rest is a tribute to those whose stories are told through the songs, and to friends and fans who have supported her along the way. It is also a symbol of her desire to re-launch her music career, stronger and sweeter than before.
