Album Notes

One foot in America, one foot in Brittany, the west part of France, the americana french band Mary-Lou has been playing its country-folk songs for almost fourteen years. Their inspiration comes from traditional music of North America mixed with the french songs tradition.
The songs talk about Acadia, Mississippi, Louisiana, swamps, … french lyrics telling stories of the deep south, the hobos, the trains, the dust storms … They love Blues, jug bands, old country songs, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Pasty Cline, …

Mary-Lou brings to french speaking people sounds and colours of that America they love.

That's why, year after year they have been asked to play in many festivals and stages in all parts of France and Europe.
They ave recorded three cds in french "Honky-Tonk Music" (1998), "Histoires Vraies (ou pas)" (2000) and "Les orages de poussière" (2003), one cd of covers "Americana Favorites" (2006) and a DVD "Mary-Lou en concert" (2006 too). All these records are still available on their label Louise Bell. More than 20 musicians have been invited on these recordings, and they like to have friends on stage with them. The band recorded a new album "Courrier Transatlantique" in April 2009 with 9 original songs and 2 covers.

Mary-Lou (Mary: vocals, guitar, washboard, snare, fiddle, and Jean-Luc: vocals, guitars, dobro, harmonica, accordeon, kick) with Stephane Dhondt on keyboards use to play, since 1996, a very special and fresh mix of Americana and french songs they wrote. On tour with different musicians (piano, double bass, harmonica, fiddle), depending on times and shows, Mary-Lou is one of the most importants french country folk bands.
