Flag On the Moon

by Mary Tylosaur

"FLAG ON THE MOON" is MARY TYLOSAUR's loving tribute to the gone-but-not-forgotten Coleman Francis. Often cited as the "Worst Director of All Time," wresting the title away from Ed Wood, his movies present a DIY, noir-ish, bleak view of the world. MARY

Perfectly Captured
About 1000 times more enjoyable than the film that inspired it, this single showcases hypnotic dirge rock from Tuscaloosa's premier musical talents. I can't exactly recommend anyone rush to see "The Beast of Yucca Flats" or , god forbid, "Red Zone Cuba" but if you brave the brain damage (or get a hold of the MST3K versions) then you will see what an awesome job D.C. Moon and company did capturing the stark black and white world the Coleman Francis attempted to tell his fractured surreal stories in. With a rock solid bass and drum line, the keyboard, guitar , and vocals swirl around threatening to wander off into psychedelic rock but that super tight driving rhythm holds them in check. This is a song you can sway slowly to or bang your head and fist along with. Not an easy combination but they master it. It won't easily leave your head….."in a Cooooolllllmaaaaann Fraaaaaancis movie"……Joel and the bots would be proud.
