It is not often that a young jazzmusician, on his debut CD, presents himself with as much musical ripeness as guitarplayer Marzio Scholten does on his ‘Motherland’. This is serious young jazz of today, sensitive, beautiful and intense.

Album Notes

On this very first recording of Marzio Scholten he presents himself as a jazz guitarist with a broad approach to jazz. Both in his compositions and improvisations I have associations with different generations of jazz guitar masters like Pat Metheny, Jim Hall, John Scofield and Jimmy Raney, but also clearly the influence of what else has been going on in pop music for the last 20-30 years. You can hear fusion, jazzrock, pop and bebop combined with the warmth of an acoustic group coming together in what you could call an acoustic-fusion group.

Marzio Scholten - Guitar
Floris van der Vlugt - Tenor & Soprano sax
Randal Corsen - Piano
Lucas Dols – Double bass
Bob Roos - Drums
