Be happy
author: Steve Baker
I first saw Mason Brown at Zoukfest. He's a very laid-back, very funny guy and it shows on this cd. You can almost hear the grinning through the music. The first time I played it I just smiled all the way through. Oh yeah, great musicianship and song chices as well. Excellent cd!

Nimble, full-voiced, authentic

What a superb CD. I have been listening to it over and over since receiving it; a sure sign it is THAT good! What a beautiful mix of songs and instrumentals. Some of them are so poignant and all are beautifully done. The arrangements, instrumentation, harmonies, and mix are outstanding. Congratulations on a fantastic piece of work!

Articulate and alive
author: Kurt Jung
Mason Brown and friends get everything right with this collection -- the arrangements, instrumentation, harmonies, phrasing, transitions, performance. Each piece is articulate and alive. The selection is varied and balanced -- songs and instrumentals, traditional and original, Celtic and Appalachian, spirited and tranquil, solo and ensemble -- and put together in an entirely satisfying way that is true to the folk spirit throughout. As with the music on the 'Am I Born to Die' album by Chipper Thompson and Mason Brown, the pieces here are compelling and vigorous. Each fits together beautifully, like the inspired prelude with oud to 'The Cuckoo', the measured introduction of instruments in 'She' and the delicate harmony in 'Lord Franklin'.
There are few recordings that I have played repeatedly as much as I have this one. Listen to this music an be grateful that Mason Brown walks the earth.
