There is fine song writing and nice soloing throughout. They're not jaw dropping solos, but they embrace the enjoyment that this band carries through out the evening of this performance. Frankly, I think the industry wouldn't know what to do with jaw dropping solos on a "Smooth Jazz" CD. Although many of the artists in that field can burn hot, you'll only get a chance to hear that stuff when you go see them live. (Support live music)During the intro to "Right Here" the crowd gets a little rowdy with one voice saying, "come on jam" trying to either, get to the music quicker, or away from this talk about God. A little later someone hollers, "Come on" but the band knows why they're there and continue on with the program. It ain't always easy doing what you feel you should be doing and the guy from Masque only talked for 58 seconds, an impatient bunch we humans. Later in the set, Masque explains the infinity symbol they use on the cover of the CD for those that might have thought that the number 8 had just rolled over. Even on the 2nd CD, which is recorded in a studio, Masque utilizes spoken word to help get across what they're all about. They display great vocals and I suppose some are going to wish they could hear vocals utilized more, but I hear so few Jazz artists in the Christian market who let the music do the talking, that it refreshing to hear Masque going forth boldly reflecting in their creative endeavors their belief that we are made in the image of the All Mighty Creator. God created good stuff by speaking it into existence, while humans have to work with the materials we have available. Here's the 'of note' things that so many people like to hear about concerning artists: BillBoard #8 Top Contemporary Jazz Chart/ Stellar Award Nominee "Instrumental CD of the Year 2003/2004 "Recorded Music Packing of the year/2003 Chicago Music Award/GMWA Award/2001 Stellar Award Nominee Urban Inspirational Performance of the Year/2000 Bet/Billboard Jazz Award- Ed EnglerthEmail any questions to: tim@hammsterwheel.com
