Album Notes

This album was recorded live over two nights in August 2005 at La Cova den Xoroi - a club carved out of the cliffs on the island of Menorca in the Mediterranean. Joining the band for both gigs was special guest and regular sit in percussionist Sam Bell (conga and timbale. The set includes a mix of NMS originals - from various albums - and cover versions of soul-jazz and boogaloo classics by Jack McDuff, Rusty Bryant, the Meters and Grant Green. Just discovered this band, The New Mastersounds recently and I can't tell you how much I am enjoying this CD.. BUY THIS CD! You will not regret it.. It is brilliant.. I am going to see them at The Bamboo Room in Lake Worth Florida March 2008 and I am really looking forward to it. The band has a throwback sound reminiscent of Booker T and The MG's but different.. Just funky brilliant music..

timeless stuff from these lads - mixing up Booker T, New Orleans backbeat, Grant Green etc and holding it together in an essential funk framework...damn! must have -- 4 stars rather than 5 just because they sound even better with their new sax/flute man. repeat: must have.
