Mathias Lee Isassi was born to Ramon Isassi Jr. and Cynthia Ann Isassi on July 23, 1986 in the small, south-Texas town of Kingsville. As a child he was quiet and very observant – learning different things and revealing his intelligence unexpectedly. Although sketching and doodling was his primary interest of adolescence, he was introduced to rock and roll by his parents who were huge 80’s/90’s music enthusiasts. His father is a very skilled musician who jammed Rush, Scorpions, Van Halen, White Snake, Queensryche and many other like bands. He got a lighter share of decibel extremes from his mother through bands like Journey, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Foreigner and great singer/songwriters Gloria Estefan and Lionel Richie. During most of his teenage years he was mostly attuned to alternative bands like Everclear, Third Eye Blind, Tonic and other like bands.
Radio was his main source of musical exposure, so he was well aware of the different varieties and changes through music history. His main influences were discovered during his junior year in high school when his physics teacher blessed him with great amounts of classic rock bliss. If you ask him he’ll tell you how without further assistance or introduction he researched and discovered his ideal music era between mid sixties to late seventies. His love and absolute admiration lies in the songs and festivals during one of America’s most interesting and impactful time periods. His music may resemble many of his favorites like Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Bread, Neil Young, Simon and Garfunkel, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Eagles and many others.
At age 16 he one day asked his dad to show him how to play an Eagles song on acoustic. From that point on he played and played and practiced and played some more. Still very shy and quiet he began writing poetry and songs. Within that year he had learned many classic rock songs and wrote well over an album worth of songs.
On his 17th birthday he got an Ibanez Pf acoustic guitar and made a proclamation that he was going to be a singer/songwriter until the very end of existence. Every year he’d produce about an album worth of songs, if not more, and progression developed fast as each year passed. His first performance, other than family backyard parties, was a benefit festival in his hometown. After high school with the pressure of life, career and the future he moved to Houston, Texas to study Media Arts and Animation at the Art Institute of Houston. His song writing slowed down, but he still made it a point to play open mic every Thursday night at a local bohemian bar. He returned home after ten months to spend another year and a half saving funds, writing and creating. It was in June of 2007 that he used his previous two years of income tax returns and more saved money to fund the recording and duplication of his debut album “last chance…”
His debut album “last chance…” consists of ten original songs he had written from 2004 to recent months in 2007. His songs range from fast-paced rock songs, with a little bit of funk, to slow relaxing songs that sooth the mind and fill the listeners’ body with emotion. His style of writing comes in two distinct flavors that deeply resonate his ideal influences. Political views felt by many like minds and through poetic melodies that can transport one to that specific moment.
He is INDIE.
