Mattan Klein, born and raised in Jerusalem, introduces the contemporary blend of musical influences in his compositions and in his flute playing. This combination makes his playing fresh and innovative, and presents a lively new dimension to the art of Jazz Flute.
Mattan is a year 2000 winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest under the Jazz Composition category and a 2003 winner of the US Songwriting Contest. His ensembles perform nationwide and he often backs Israeli pop heros such as Yoni Rechter and Miki Gavrielov on national tours.
The critics say:
"Klein's project performs exquisite Brazilian and original music... their convoy lands in Rio de Janeiro but immediately takes off to explore the territory of contemporary Jazz where they possess a strong knowledge of the local dialect".
"An ensemble ripe and ready, equipped with a mature and complete sound, and an ability to bring out the best of its art"
"New worlds of sound and rhythm dicovered by a musical group which has reached artistic maturity".
"Wonderful musicians who are creative individully and as a group".
"A veteran ensemble with excellent interaction and harmonious togetherness".
"Masterful technique of a well rehearsed ensemble... fresh and original compositions which are both enlighting and entertaining".
