Album Notes

The brainchild of songwriter/pianist/guitarist Matt Bodman the Valentine Grind was formed in the winter months of 2007, rising up from the ashes of various punk bands that failed miserably in their quest for world domination. Their debut album "Burn" has just been released. Influenced largely by the music of Randy Newman and Joni Mitchell, stories of personal loss are intertwined with the creation of characters; misanthropes and losers. The pessimistic father, the poor artist on the verge of selling out, the fashion blinded, the proud killer with a god complex, expressed through the tried and true techniques of composers as diverse as Bernstein and Monteverdi, all wrapped up in an easy-to-ingest pop coating.
