Matt Burke was born into a musical family in Sydney, Australia. He began singing at the age of five and was the proud owner of an early model phonograph Karaoke player! He learnt keyboard, sax and drums before concentrating on acoustic guitar.
Composing was always a passion and with roots in classical and rock music, the results are often staggering. He mixes acoustic guitar with polyphonic string melodies and vocal harmonies.
Matt lives to entertain - He has been playing the pub circuit in Australia and 'Apres Ski' in Austria for over ten (10) years.
The requests for a 'take home' version of his music has been answered, with the debut album 'truth' available now.

author: Dreh Punk Kultur - Austria31/10/06 Zu finden ist dieses Stück des Wahl-Österreichers Matt Burke neben zehn anderen auf seinem selbst produzierten Album „Truth“, das der Sänger und Gitarrist im Sommer 2005 veröffentlicht hat und dieser Tage bei Auftritten in und um Salzburg zu promoten sich anschickt. Als Schilehrer in Saalbach hat er sich mit der Schönheit der hiesigen Gegend angefreundet und sich - aus Liebe zu seiner jetzigen Ehefrau - schließlich entschlossen, im Pinzgau zu bleiben. Und (weiterhin) Musik zu machen. In rund einjähriger Auseinandersetzung mit den selbst geschriebenen Songs, unterstützt von den "local heroes" der Blues Unlimited kreierte Burke einen dem Acoustic Pop verschriebenen Liederzyklus, der, wie der Komponist selbst meint, einen wichtigen und durchaus überraschenden Abschnitt seiner Lebensreise widerspiegelt, von "Cooma Town" nach Lofer, von der Suche nach der eigenen Identität ("Find a Way"), den leidvollen Anpassungsschwierigkeiten in der neuen Heimat ("You cannot see"), der schwierigen Entscheidung, wohin das Leben führen soll ("Crossroads") und dem endlosen Prozess zu sich selbst zu finden ("Awareness Cycle"). Mit jedem Stück scheinen sich dem Mann von '‚down-under' Erkenntnis und Gewissheit weiter zu erschließen: Der Weg ist das Ziel, das Mosaik setzt sich Stück für Stück zur Wahrheit zusammen. Dem bisweilen schwermütigen Inhalt seiner Reiseberichte setzt Burke dabei den vermeintlich schlichten Klang seiner akustischen Gitarre entgegen, einfache - bisweilen allzu durchschaubare - Arrangements und traditionelle Blues-Rock-Combo-Besetzung bringen gepaart mit dem Charme des "low-budgets-sounds" Burkes "Truth" zum Klingen. Das alles wirkt unprätentiös und geradlinig, jedem Song ist seine Entstehung anzuhören und die Wirkung vor Konzertpublikum ist gewiss. Matt Burke / "Truth". MAT-99-05.
