Album Notes

In October of 1997, in the middle of a cold dark night in Burlington, VT, I decided that I had had enough. After more than two years at the University of Vermont as a history major I realized I needed a change in my life. So I jumped in the car and drove the four hours south to my parent's house in Scituate,MA, arriving at 6:00 am, and told them that I was leaving school. I figured that they would be disappointed in that decision but instead to my surprise I saw a twinkle in my father's eyes. Within a few days I discovered what that glimmer had been when he suggested that I audition at Berklee College of Music. Music is something I had done as hobby my entire life so I decided to try it, and in January '98 I auditioned and was accepted. It was the best decision I ever made.

In my first couple years at Berklee I discovered my strengths were songwriting and performance. As a writer I studied a variety of genres from classical to rock, from jazz to country. Some of my greatest writing influences include Sting, Pat Metheny, and David Gray. As a guitarist my influences include John Scofield, Freddie King, and Trey Anastasio.

In the summer of 2000 I met the players who would make up the original members of Matt Chase Group. Since then we have been consistently playing shows throughout the Greater Boston and New England area. We've played clubs such as The House of Blues (Cambridge, MA), Harper's Ferry (Allston, MA) and The Red Square (Burlington, VT). We've recorded two full length original cds and I am currently working on a solo album. In the music I have tried to blend my many influences into an original sound that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of music listeners and from the reaction of the crowds I feel I've been fairly successful so far.

I love to write and play music and I hope is that it shows in the performances and recordings. To all who take the time to listen to the cds and/or come to the shows I can't thank you enough and I hope that my music adds a touch of joy to all of your lives.
Cheers,

Matt Chase

Unbelievable. This CD was orginal and unique...finally a band that actually has some intense musical talent. I often wonder how some of these other artists make it onto the radio....hopefully I will be hearing some matt chase group in place of some of the other crap out there. Keep up the good work! I can't wait for the Trio to come out!

This band rocks my socks off

I have heard these cats live and they know what they are doing. Mauricio is amazing. It boggles the mind at how talented he is and how complicated and ridiculously awesome his drum solos are. Timmy Butterworth is an unreal tickler of the ivories and knows how to blow the horn. Matt Chase is unreal. He can strum those strings better than most and can sing you away to that sweet, sweet, happy place. Hell i think i have about 10 copies of that cd and i would easily buy 11 more. If you don't have this cd then your life is incomplete. Congrats boys on a kick ass cd!!!

Greatest CD ever
author: Jon Butterworth
The CD sounds great! The blend of the instruments and the songs written for them are nothing short of amazing. The whole band is so tight and funky throughout the whole album! Put it up with the greats, this album was by far, the best ever recorded in the history of music.
