Original Matt Frazier
author: Keith Heimforth
Many songs are written about love, but fewer reach down for the depths of that essential force. Matt goes beyond the emotion of love, and beyond the typical “she loves me, she loves me not” realm. He explores the relationship between lovers, between friends, most importantly between any two human beings who encounter each other as they struggle through life. So, while it’s not always obvious, these are songs about love, even when it’s not pretty.
The musicianship is first rate throughout. The album has a very consistent sound and feel throughout – acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards often in a mid-tempo groove, vocals that let you know that he means what he sings, with just enough lovely harmonies to keep it interesting.
The standout tracks for me are Always Something, When You Were Wild, and Sometimes Love. But in any song you’ll find lines that ring true and stay with you (“There are worse things than crying, like never knowing how you feel at all”) and some indelible images (the “blue jay... bouncing from branch to limb” while “I feel just like that bird - so unfocused....”).
This is a really good set of songs, and they clearly come from the heart.
