Matt King is a New York-area pianist, composer & arranger. He’s been playing piano for about 35 years now, and has just about gotten the hang of it...
Some have said this is the greatest Christmas album ever recorded; some, more specific, have said this is the greatest JAZZ Christmas album ever recorded. Some others have said this is a PRETTY GOOD jazz Christmas album; and a few others have just said, “Bah, humbug!” But, I’m sure you wouldn’t be among those malcontented souls…
Kidding aside, I envisioned this project to be Christmas music for those who think they don’t like jazz, and jazz for those who don’t like the usual Christmas music. And ever since its release, this album has apparently, giving much credit to divine inspiration, attained the across-the-board appeal I’d hoped it would. Please give it a listen and decide for yourself!
More about little ol’ me:
I freelance as a professional pianist, keyboardist, Hammond organist, and vocalist in the NY area, throughout the US, and internationally. I’m a member of “smooth jazz” guitarist Chuck Loeb’s working band, and that of up-and-coming guitarist Gil Parris. I’ve also played and recorded with many other jazz artists, including Chris Potter, Billy Hart, Claudio Roditi, and Charles MacPherson; pop vocalists Phoebe Snow and Curtis Stigers; and legendary groups such as Blood, Sweat & Tears and The Shirelles.
I like to bring my eclectic musical experiences to bear in jazz contexts; and conversely, my extensive knowledge of jazz into other contexts, when appropriate. My musical philosophy is basically in line with that of the late great Duke Ellington, which was, to paraphrase:
“There’s only two kinds of music: Good and Bad. And if it SOUNDS good, it IS good!”
Hope this music “sounds good” to you – and thanks for listening!

WELCOME, CHRISTMAS
author: Carole Del Monte
This has been one of our favorite Christmas albums since our daughter gave it to us at least 10 years ago. Matt was her neighbor at that time & we have never gotten over the talent & quality of his work. Sensational!
