Recorded by Matt and Bil at the Think Tank - Hoboken, NJ

What do you do when it all falls apart? You pick up the pieces and put it back together (or just bail and start to build something new). In the spring of 2007, amidst the final stages of a 2nd divorce that turned my life upside down and inside out, I found myself looking at things from different angles then ever before. I had moved from my house and my other home, Think Tank Studio had gone through a reconstruction that included an influx of new artists and new-old gear. (see: www.thinktankstudio.org) I had spent the past several years working with other artists and now felt the overwhelming need to create something of my own.

I polled a few friends and asked what songs/artists they thought sounded like me, both in spirit & message and to pick 10 songs. I then took a cross-section of these lists (including my own) and called my good friend Don Fleming who gathered some fine musicians in March at the Think Tank and we put a bunch of tracks on tape using a Studer 16-track 2\" machine. (Thanks Sonic Youth) Over the following months I spent many hours on my own overdubbing all of the parts to complete this idea. Through that process I found songs of my own that I had recorded in bits and pieces with friends under the moniker “Zilker”, and a few that I had done on my own. All of these had a common thread.

I am great at beginnings, good in the middle and find much difficulty in endings. Therefore I enlisted the good help of sound engineer Bil Emmons and the multi-talented Ed Stasium to mix all of these tracks in order to help complete these thoughts. The finishing touches included mastering by Greg Calbi and artwork provided by my father. The result is what you hear in your speakers. Put it in your PC, your iPod, your car - Turn it up and ROCK ON!

Additional thanks to my family and friends, sweet Melissa, the Fave, Bjorn Yttling, Jesse Malin, Lee Ranaldo for guitars, Steve Shelley, SY & Aaron Mullan for sharing gear & studio, Don – a true sonic guru, and Bil E. a continuing source of sound advice.

The past is CHECKERED, the Future is unwritten, & Timing is everything. . . .

Make art! Not Misery –Matt
