Album Notes

On The Rocks packs funky jazz, smooth urban thangs, world beats, and even some pop pieces. The album is the vision of this new artist who blends all genres and vibes. Inspired by artists such as George Benson, Larry Carlton, Eric Clapton, James Brown, Prince, Maxwell, Paul Simon-you can sure count on some diverse stylings. With over 100 live shows since 2006, Matt's new album reflects these travels. Space Coastin' is a tribute to the cities of Melbourne, Cocoa Beach in Florida, Bratislava Bop is a nod to Slovakia and it's great festivals, Hangin' at Humphreys says thank you to San Diego, and Sanibel is a South African tribute to the great US island.

Along for the ride are Andre Berry (Mindi Abair), Carl Burnett (Branford Marsalis), Chris Geith, Chris Kent (Larry Carlton), among other greats. You'll hear straight ahead jazzy grooves in "On The Rocks," there's ever funkiness in "Hangin at Humphrey's," "Chuck's Groove," and "Space Coastin'." And there is also two versions of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire."

This album has many chapters. There is a set of down home funk: Old School and Chuck's Groove. There is a gospely "Brotherhood" which is a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. There is the South African "Sanibel." There is the Euro-chill "Life is a Mystery" which has Wes Montgomery tones and Joe Satriani type parts battling each other. The chill continues with Bratislava Bop, Matt's dedication to The Bratislava Jazz Days Fest in Slovakia, and West Coast Stranger.

If you like smooth jazz, soulful R&B, funky grooves, get ready for one of the brightest new stars in this genre. He is being featured at some of the great festivals of Jazz all over the world, and today you can enjoy all his passion and vision with "On The Rocks." We hope you enjoy !

On this album Matt shows us that he has grown again. Some great songs with the typical marshak sound like Space coastin, On the rocks, Brotherhood and Chucks groove Then there are some real masterpieces like Sierra sunset, Life is a mystery, Bratislava bop and West coast stranger. But please Matt, don't sing !!

As always - from Preservation through Groovosphere - Matt rocks (or jazzes, or blueses, or pops??)!!! This young artist has mastered his own unique sound, has put the petal to the metal, and has yet to let up!! I've been honored with the good fortune of meeting and hanging with Matt, enjoying his live performances, and witnessing his musical growth. He will very soon be allowed as one of the elite players in today's world of great music. I like to call him a jazz guitarist, but that would be so unfairly limiting to what he really brings to the table. If you haven't heard him, check this one out and feel the groove!! You will be hooked!!!
