Album Notes

Until two years ago, Matt the Electrician had never tried co-writing. In 2009, Matt joined forces with The House of Songs (a collaborative songwriting exchange between Denmark and Austin, TX) and spent much of the next year co-writing songs with Danish musicians. He was subsequently invited, in May of 2010, to be a part of The Nordic Co-Writers, a three day intensive co-writing workshop at a 16th century haunted castle in the Danish countryside. The workshop brought together writers from Austin, Iceland, Norway, Denmark and The Faroe Islands in the name of collaborative creation. Six of the twelve songs on his new CD, 'Accidental Thief', are co-writes; and five of those were written at Engelsholm Castle, in Denmark. Continuing in the tradition of his last release, 'Animal Boy, the new CD was recorded at The Aerie Studio in Austin, TX in January of 2011,
and co-produced by Matt and Mark Addison.

Matt and his hearty blend
author: Edward Povey

Again Matt does it. He brings an unassuming authenticity to his music. A mixture of gentle happiness, philosophy, humor, and an aching humanity. Because the music is so very honest, and was therefore not aimed to please or sell to anyone (as its primary goal), it comes like a child - deeply understandable to human beings. And who cares about the others? We need an organization which simply assures a flow of income to Matt and his band, to just keep them playing and Matt writing - without playing their socks of for tip jars (however much we love to drink a Guiness and listen to him) - so that he and they can get about the job of leaving their legacy of authenticity and joy in this world.
