“ Lover In Arms is Matty Charles’ debut solo release. Primarily a country/folk record, it contains a lyrical dreaminess that is poetic & moving. There is a wide array of moods & influences in this collection of songs-country, blues, bluegrass, tin pan alley and even rock & roll, but the overriding characteristic is the intimate, solitary performance of the songs for you, the listener. This intimacy brings to mind the early recordings of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen & though Charles is very likely influenced by both artists, he certainly has a style and a voice all his own. “

I recorded this group of songs at home on my friend Philippa Thompson’s reel to reel that she was kind enough to lend me. All the songs were recorded live to two track because I thought that it sounded best and captured the real flesh & blood of the material. It’s a stripped down sound and I think it suits the direction and color of the imagery and the emotion of the lyrics. I hope all my friends enjoy it and that I make new friends because of it.
