Matt Yee is a national entertainer and recording artist from Hawaii whose solo shows around the country regularly sell out. "Think Elton John meets Margaret Cho!" He is also Hawaii's favorite Cabaret Star.
Matt performs on the Biggest Ships in the World. His standing room only Sing Along Shows have become legendary with fans watching 6 lines deep, and others waiting up the stairs to catch his show and maybe grab a seat. Corporate patrons from Johnson and Johnson to Pitney Bowes testify to the magic of his performances.
He has captured audiences at many prestigious venues across America including, The Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia, The Top Hat Theater in Palm Springs, The Showtime Millennium Stage at the March on Washington in Washington D.C., Pride Festivals in Northampton-L.A.-Milwaukee, Gentry on Halsted in Chicago, Fifes in the Russian River, Douglas Dunes, The Bonaventure & The Cinegrill in L.A., and Piafs in San Francisco. Matt emceed one of the largest Pride Festivals of its kind in the nation at Long Beach (2001 paid attendance over 100,000 people and coverage on all major networks and CNN), and performed at San Francisco Pride 2000 & 2001 (both had attendance estimated at 1 million people).
Matt honors include winning multiple ASCAP awards, The Hawaii Music Award, an OMA Director's Award (out of New York City) and he has just been nominated for a JP Folks Award (L.A.) out of 35,000 entries for "Every Facet of My Heart".
In Hawaii, Matt has performed all over Waikiki and the islands, including The Hyatt Regency Waikiki's Texas Rock & Roll Sushi Bar, The Sheraton Waikiki, The Princess Kaiulani Hotel, The Honolulu Academy of Arts Theater, and The Atherton at Hawaii Public Radio, Hapa's on Maui and The Marriot Resort on Kauai (among others).,
Most recently Matt could be seen on Royal Caribbean's Explorer and Monarch of the Seas, Norweigan Star, MS Patriot (US Cruiselines) and the Carnival Funship Sensation. Matt is also a featured artist on Atlantis Events cruises.
His shows have been part of festivals and gatherings such as The National Queer Arts Festival, The California Men's Gathering, and The United States of Asian America Festival. He headlined the 16th annual GLBT International Square Dance Convention in L.A on July 4th to rave reviews from 1200 queens! He's also done benefits and community building events for Aids organizations and other non-profits such as Malama Pono, The Life Foundation, The West Hawaii Aids Foundations, the Gay Asian Pacific Alliance, The Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, and The Manifest Foundation.
He's also performed for corporate clients including large real estate developers such as Schuler Homes, Health Care providers such as Kaiser Permanente, Banks and Credit Unions, Shopping Centers and many others.
Matt was born & raised in Honolulu, and lives in Hawaii (when not on tour). He is a 4th generation Asian American, gay, performing/recording artist, who graduated from Dartmouth College (B.A. cum laude) and the University of Pennsylvania (J.D.).
Matt has shared the stage with Margaret Cho, Ru Paul, Little Richard, The Village People, Joan Jett and many others. Matt is a Diva in his own right with a direct message that happiness comes when you make your own kind of music and sing your own special song (whatever that may be). His shows incorporate fabulous costumes, lots of laughs, orchestral piano playing, Matt's wonderful voice, and warm insightful songs and stories about our lives.
