I like this CD! It has great movement in theme so it doesn't all sound the same. It has great grooves covering funk, latin, straight ahead, etc. This is a quality production highlighting memorable melodies as well as forging instrumental solos that compliment the song. This CD has purpose and is not self indulgent. "Funky Smooth" fits many situations: entertaining guests, eating dinner, romancing, office, cleaning the house or just grooving in front of the stereo. A must for contemporary/smooth jazz fans. Looking forward to this artist's next project.

Funk and Smooth Undercurrent!

The tempo and mood of these songs flow with a funk and smooth undercurrent that sends me in the most relaxing way. There is a distinct sound to all this that I have never heard before in smooth jazz that I can only describe as unique but familiar. Michael Allen Whipple has a real gift of blending opposite vibes and making them sound, well… funkysmooth!
