Who is Max Groove?
Out of the city known for its rich jazz heritage, Kansas City, Missouri, comes Keyboardist Extraordinaire, Max Groove, one of the pioneers of the smooth jazz style that has dominated the airways and captivated countless listeners.
His new release "It's A Beautiful Day" on Orpheus/EMI Music combines the intimacy, passion, and focus of a classical composer/artist with the sensitivity and moving melodies of the great eras of song writing, as well as adding innovative jazz structures. He has combined the strengths of the past to produce a new world of sound, melody, and emotion.
Max brings this sound to the stage as well. Added to his acoustic grand piano and assorted keyboards is original guitarist Max Berry and long time drummer Pete Cole. Kenny Hudson rounds out the sound on bass.
National tour appearances with performers such as Joe Sample & the Crusaders, the Temptations, Peabo Bryson, Count Basie, Chaka Khan, Jeff Lorber, Ronnie Laws, Joan Armatrading, Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons, Marcus Miller, and many other greats have added to the reputation of "The Groove".
Released in May of 1989, "Midnight Rain" cracked the Top 10 of the contemporary jazz airplay charts and climbed to #14 in Billboard Jazz. "Maximum Groove" released in May 1990, drew rave reviews from the critics and reached #16 in Billboard Jazz. Album # 7, "Aquafrio" released in early 1992 climbed the charts satisfied all Max Groove fans. With great anticipation album #8, "Maxed Out", was released in 1996. His CD "Solo" released in 2000, is being heard throughout the United States and the current CD " It's A Beautiful Day" is climbing the Billboard Jazz Charts right now.
