Album Notes

Max Wellman burst on the jazz scene in Des Moines with the 2007 release of 'Gimme the Keys,' an EP comprised of five covers that featured 'You Don't Know Me.' Since then Wellman has become well-known indeed in area jazz circles.

With influences ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to his local mentor Roxi Copland & a voice that evokes jazz legends, Wellman has become a mainstay on the live jazz scene as front man for assorted combos. His growing resume is highlighted so far by the chance to open for Grammy nominee Vanessa Carlton as part of Des Moines' Nitefall on the River series. He is currently at work on a full-length album that will be a mix of jazz standards and his own original material with an anticipated release in June of 2009…

"Wellman is a jazz vocalist whose crisp, clear tenor voice produces melodic interpretations that echo the likes of Harry Connick Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Buble."
- The Des Moines Register

"Jazz vocalist Max Wellman is quickly becoming a local sensation. Performing with the poise and confidence of someone far beyond his years, he captivates audiences with a classic yet fresh vocal style..."
- DSM Magazine
