Album Notes

Mayan Ruins (live debut~9/24/2006) usually perform with Tribal dancers in unusual venues like churches (deconsecrated & otherwise) Masonic temples & outdoor pagan festivals as well as taverns, coffeehouses & a teahouse. Our sound incorporates psychedelic, gothic, shamanic, middle eastern & asian influences.
Annette Christianson - violin
Rob Dorsey – chant & vocal
Ron Esposito – crystal bowls & chant
Derek Garteiz - electric guitar, djembe, doumbek & percussion
Christian Hartman - fender bass, doumbek, frame drum & tambourine
Zachary J. Mechlem – resonator guitar, doumbek
Will Menton – electric guitar, doumbek
Gregory Morris – violin, acoustic guitars
Paul Ravenscraft – conga, percussion
Denny Schoeny - doumbek, djembe, bells & various percussion
We are strictly improvisational & record most of our shows (see tracks 6 & 7) & our studio pieces are also improvised, round-robin style, with each player adding his/her layer over those previously recorded. ASTRAL VIOLET is a hybrid-Zachary J. Mechlem's Hindi style resonator guitar was recorded live at a performance, isolated & the other parts were laid in around it. Derek Garteiz is the engineering wizard who records it all, mixes it down (often dub style, dropping instruments in & out) & Christian does the final mastering.

Mayan Ruins has been playing amazing live music for years... I'm thrilled to have this CD now, so I can hear them whenever I want! The variety is wonderful... some songs are slow & slightly brooding, while others are upbeat & "drum-tastic". I love bellydancing to their live music, and now I love dancing to this CD!

Quickly becoming one of my most played CD's. Astral Violet called to my hippie roots, the chifitelli and 9/8ths are perfect for bellydancing....you've hit me on many levels! Thanks!

WOW! I was blown away! This music is definitely very danceable and most definitely trance! It gets inside of you and you can't help but move to it. I've already played it for my students. I've had it a day and a half and have already listened to it 7 times...You guys definitely have a sound of your own and I love it! Thank you!

Being a band member i realize it is imposible to be completely objective, but i will do my best. I could not justify a 5 star rating as nobody is perfect (although this is as near as any could come). What I enjoy most is the dynamic and cohesive nature of the albumn as a whole. Each piece feels unique unto itself yet fit perfectly together creating a surrealistic synergy (WOW, I can sling some bullsh#t!). Truly though, it is a great piece of work created by great hearts and minds.
