Mojo Red has said it all. Based on actual events has been one of my favourite CDs since I bought it through CD Baby. Maybe August is one of the few bands that I still want to see live really badly.

My so called review should predicated that I have a positive bias toward Maybe August and the family of folks that are an extended family to all of us.
First this CD is a semi radical departion from the first recording "a fine how do you" which was brilliant, yet not totally fullfilled. This CD is polished but not mirror shiny. its just polished to the point that you might see yourself reflected back as you sonically look thru these ten tracks tracks. There are songs of loss, of redicovery, of questioning, questioning the Government yet you will still find your self dancing your ass off to a great protest song "Lies." Maybe August is good people who have put together a project that touches on as many genres as it touches peoples hearts ...so if you want some good advive froma guy typing on ambien late at night ... Buy this CD and you will have one of the best CDs to have comeout in years.

Best original music I've heard in years. Period.
author: Ken M. aka "Mojo Red"
I'm a harmonica player and had have picked up many ~incredible~ harmonica CDs recently by players including as PT Gazell, Chris Michalek, Jason Ricci and most recently Hazmat Modine.
I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from Rosco Selley's band, Maybe August. Well, I gotta tell you... "Based on Actual Events" was a truly enexpected, and absolute musical pleasure through and through.
This is not a "harmonica CD" though there are some ~wonderful~ and well placed solos from Rosco artfully placed throughout. Never overplayed, always making a profound musical point. Beautiful.
But my main point is that this is a CD of really great original music. Period.
I don't know when I've enjoyed a new CD more thoroughly on first spin as I did this one. Great songwriting, great playing from ALL band members, professional arrangements and instrumentation, fabulous (and sometimes poignant) original songs, powerful sometimes lyrical vocals (with tons of harmony tossed in), creative and interesting
throughout. This stuff should be getting FM airplay
across the country.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting an effort quite so balanced, professional or just plain GOOD as this CD. I am, quite honestly, bowled over. I'm a believer. Maybe August is Awesome!
WOW!
I'd read somewhere that this was a "must-have" CD for harp players... What an understatement. I think this is a must-have CD for anyone interested in relevant music.
