Album Notes

"Stars and Promises" is the title of the new Christmas album, released this holiday season by Peter Mayer.

It features six brand new Peter Mayer songs, including a collaboration with acclaimed hymn writer Herbert Brokering, entitled, "Wings Of Angels."

The album also celebrates traditional carols, such as, "Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel," "Angels We Have Heard On High," "The Little Drummer Boy," and others.

They are performed with fresh arrangements, incorporating a variety of stylistic influences from classical ("Christmas Overture"), folk ("Sing Joy"), popular ("This Christmas") and jazz ("What Child Is This").

On "Stars and Promises," Mayer has added the sounds of Native American wood flute, piano, percussion from around the world, and a string trio, to the distinctive acoustic guitar and vocal work you have heard on his previous offerings, "Spare Tire Orchestra," "Romeo's Garage," and "Green Eyed Radio."

The source of our new favorite Christmas songs

The Christmas season doesn't officially start for our family (ages 3 to 43) until we play this CD. We love the fresh, folk approach to favorite songs and new songs have already become old favorites in the few years we've had this CD. We sing along and dance along and just enjoy every note.

Peter Mayer's sixth CD, Stars and Promises is a masterpiece.  From soothing instrumentals, to traditional Christmas tunes and finally seven original tunes, this is a Christmas CD you will be playing year round.  Wonderful guitar, incredible percussion by Scott Bryan, this CD won't leave your player all Christmas season.

The tune, This Christmas, cowritten with Peter by Jim Mayer and Mac McAnally is a beautiful tune that should be on radio playlists across the country.  Another original, Stars and Promises features the beautiful vocals of Ms. Tina Gullickson.

Buy this CD for yourself and by several more for everyone on your Christmas list.  They will enjoy this great gift of music.

Peter reminds us of the reason for the season

When I first heard that Peter was recording a Christmas cd I knew that it would be something special. What Peter has created is timeless. Original compositions like the soaring "Ring Out The Bells" and the eloquent "Sing Joy" fit perfectly alonside traditional Christmas Songs, like "Little Drummer Boy" and "Angels We Have Heard On High". In a bold move, Peter successfully gives us insight on the birth of Christ from the Virgin Mary's point of view on "Mother's Song". Peter's talent is such a gift not only to him, but to those of us who his music has touched. Without reservation, this is the best Christmas collection I've ever heard.
