The Letterpress Opry are Iowa's answer to the surrealistic existence of genetically engineered pigs. Grown in the deep, black soil of the American Midwest, The Letterpress Opry sound like a Brechtian back-alley tractor race between Doc Watson, Camper Van Beethoven, The Band, Wilco, and Johnny Cash (on a bad hair day).

"This wonderful, passionate roots band has brought a welcome new mix of old sounds to the local scene of late. Folk, gospel, country-rock, hillbilly music and echoes of The Band are all rounded up under the group's musical tent... Sycamore Tree (is) a rousing five-song debut EP that covers an amazing amount of turf in just over 26 exhilarating minutes."
-Jim Musser, Iowa City Press-Citizen
"Both sweet and startling, the music of this roots band delivers a
passionate and sometimes haunting slice of Americana."
-Ben Keiffer, WSUI

Highly reccomend this CD. It's great to hear a young group playing this music with such passion, intensity, and talent

What a lovely CD . . . and I don't mean that in a cheesy way. There's a laid back, easy feeling that I get when I listen. If I had to catagorize the music on this CD, I would call it American music without leaning too country. Why "Baltimore" wasn't more of a break out song, I'll never understand.

Relaxing music from a local band!

The songs on this CD, although few in number, are very powerful and with meaning. From the great violin part of I DON'T KNOW to the story told by CAROLINE, the Mayflies (now, the Letterpress Opry) proves itself to be a very creative and original band.
